May 2010: The Crown Estate Award an Agreement for Lease to extend the Walney Offshore Wind Farm by a further 750MW over a 145 km2 area.


Q2 2010: Scoping phase and stakeholder consultation commenced

2013

Onshore Project Design Update Community Consultation Event

28th June 2013: Application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) is submitted to the Planning Inspectorate

22nd July 2013: Application for a DCO is accepted by the Planning Inspectorate for progression into Examination

10th August 2013 - 20th September 2013: Representation period - Interested parties were invited to register and provide relevant responses to the Planning Inspectorate via the online Registration and Relevant Registration form.


Q4 2013: Feedback event provided consultees with further details regarding the changes made to the Project as a result of consultee comments throughout the pre-application consultation process. The submitted application documents were also presented and discussed.


 


 

 
2014-2019

November 2014: Development consent granted

 

December 2015: Onshore construction commenced

 

April 2016 - April 2018: Offshore construction commences*

 

December 2017 - December 2019: Project construction is completed and transfer to the Operations and Maintenance team takes place *

Decommissioning PlanDecommissioning Plan

​The decommissioning provisions in the Energy Act 2004 require that a person who constructs and operates a renewable energy installation should be responsible for ensuring that the installation is decommissioned at the end of its useful life, and should be responsible for meeting the costs of decommissioning. Under Section 105 of the Energy Act 2004, DONG Energy RB (UK) Limited is required to submit to the Secretary of State a Decommissioning Programme for Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm project and to consult on it prior to formal submission.
